The Lee County Boater publication started in August of 2003 as a 12 page free handbook
for Lee County residents and visitors with a circulation of about 200 per month.
It started out with the title of “Nautical Mile” which is now the name of the media
group that currently prints several different publications, and hosts various websites.
During the boom of 2004 & 2005 the Nautical Mile grew from a small hand-out into
a 40 page free nautical paper. Now thousands are printed monthly and our EOM recycle
pick-up ratio is less that 5%. The Lee County Boater is currently
56 pages, printed monthly and distributed in over 100 public locations through Lee
County Florida and is available 365 days a year.
We have about 15 local staff writers and a few from other parts of the country. Our
monthly content gives it a long shelf life covering real estate, local boating, fishing
tournaments, upcoming events throughout Lee County, fishing guides, places to stay,
bait & tackle shops, detailed maps of boat ramps and waterfront restaurants, GPS
numbers to dozens of artificial reefs and shipwrecks and saltwater fish identification.
Our target readership is a coastal audience including new and seasonal residents,
plus new visitors to the area.
We’ve had to change formats 4 times since 2003 to accommodate growth and our advertising
customer renewals hold at over 95% yearly. Our greatest competitive features are
pages of useful monthly content and public availability all month long.
Nautical Mile Publications also publishes “Destination Pine Island”, a quarterly
guide to Pine Island Florida. All of our papers can be downloaded in PDF a format
online.
